If accepted by the Admissions Committee and upon my payment of the appropriate enrollment tuition fees, please enter my child as a student at the Learning Skills International School (LSIS), Accra, Ghana. Enrollment is subject to general statements, rules, regulations, conditions, traditions, and financial terms contained in the Board policies, student and parent handbooks, and the tuition invoice. I understand the following:
Mission
Mission of Learning Skills International School
Our aim is to prepare the pre and primary school children for tomorrow’s world. We do this through the provision of high-quality creative and enjoyable learning and educational methods which draw out each child’s abilities and confidence.
We aim to do this by making them global citizens through the provision of high-quality education, interactive teacher and student directed instruction delivered through creative educational methods that promote inquiry; while challenging students with rigorous instruction that nurtures lifelong learners who respect and are tolerant of all cultures. Our students will collaborate with one another to make the world a better place for all.
LSIS is a private, not-for-profit, co-educational, college preparatory, international school. English is the language of instruction.
Enrollment
Admission of a student is subject to the approval of the school’s administration and age (passport or birth certificate), completed registration documents including medical form, confidential school report form and previous school records, are all required before an application can be processed. Previous school records, a student’s age, interview and placement tests where necessary, determine grade placement. The final decision on grade placement is at the discretion of the school’s administration. LSIS is authorized to contact schools and other sources to obtain information to support this application. I understand that any records obtained pursuant to my consent will be treated as confidential and only reviewed or disseminated within LSIS as necessary to make an admission and class placement decision. I further understand that I will hold LSIS harmless in gathering information from other sources and acting upon that information in the admission and placement processes.
Pre-kindergarten applicants should have attained the age of four (4) by September 1 of that academic year, and other grades shall follow suit. They will be admitted to Kindergarten when they reach an appropriate level of maturity.
LSIS will administer forms after acceptance for admission (parent contact information, birth records, immunization records, and medical, physical and health records) that must be completed and returned to LSIS before the child may commence classes.
Fees
Payment of a non-refundable application fee of is required of all students. Applications will not be processed without this fee.
When an application is accepted for enrollment, a registration fee is required. This is a one-time and non- refundable fee that will be used throughout the student’s enrollment at LSIS for building construction/renovation and capital replacement.
A reservation fee will be required of parents of continuing students to reserve a place for the next academic year. This amount will be applied to tuition fees for the first term of the next school year and is non-refundable.
Students who have paid tuition/reservation but fail to attend the first 10 days of school without notification to the school will be placed in a wait pool for their grade.
Tuition fees are payable on a term basis, according to the fees applicable to each class. Tuition Fees are due as follows:
First term: due on or before September 1; second term: due on or before January 1; Third term: due on or before April 1. Tuition fees are non- transferrable and do not guarantee a place for another student.
All students are enrolled for the school year unless expressly agreed to in writing to the contrary. The reservation fee is non-refundable. The only circumstance in which tuition fees may be refunded would be if student do not attend any portion, or any class, within a given term and that term had been paid full.
In such cases, tuition fees will be refunded for any term during which the student will not be in attendance for any days. Proof of a bank transfer must be provided at the time of transfer. Bank charges relating to transfers will be borne by the parent making the transfer. Students will not be allowed to attend classes if tuition is not paid by stated deadlines unless other acceptable arrangements in writing are made with the school. Checks returned for not sufficient funds will attract a penalty of GHC100.00. Additional fees may be charged for special learning support services or therapists.
Books
All textbooks and library books are properties of LSIS and are to be returned in good condition upon the termination of a student’s attendance of the school year. A replacement fee will be charged for lost or damaged books.
Personal belonging
Learning Skills International School is not responsible for damages to or loss of personal belongings.
Codes of Conduct
The student and parent agree to abide by the values expressed in the LSIS Mission and Belief statements, as well as codes of conduct published for each division. We understand that inappropriate conduct of the student or parent may result in suspension or expulsion.
If a student is unable or unwilling to do assigned schoolwork or when behavior is disruptive or undisciplined on the campus or a school event, LSIS has the right to terminate enrollment. Before termination occurs, however, school personnel, parents, and the student will work together in an attempt to solve the problem. Tuition is non- refundable in this case.
Disruptive or threatening behavior from a student’s parent/guardian will not be permitted and may result in termination of the enrollment of the student. Tuition is non-refundable in this case.
Medical Considerations
Every student must have a medical form on file in the school office. Failure to do so may result in non-or mistreatment of injuries, for which LSIS cannot accept responsibility.
If, in the opinion of a licensed and practicing physician, my child needs emergency medical or surgical services that require parental authorization, and I am not available for such, I hereby authorize LSIS to act as my agent for this service. I release LSIS from all liability that might arise from giving this authorization.
Students participating in athletics are required to submit an original birth certificate (or an official copy or passport), parental approval, and physical examination to establish eligibility.
Dress Code
We believe that the manner in which a student dresses affects his or her behavior and that appropriate school dress is the responsibility of every student and parent. Students are discouraged from dressing in a manner that may be distracting to the point of upsetting the learning process or which violates existing social norms. All students, therefore, are expected to follow the dress code outlined in the Parent and Student Handbook. Students refusing to follow the dress code will be suspended or expelled from school.
Limitation of School Responsibility (before and after school hours)
Students should not arrive prior to thirty (30) minutes before school begins and should leave campus immediately after classes or at the conclusion of their participation in school-sponsored or school-supervised activities. LSIS personnel are not available to supervise students on the school premises before 7:00 a.m. or after 3:30 p.m. The school cannot be held liable for mishaps or accidents that may occur to students outside of the regular school hours. However, students can enroll unto the After-School program for a fee. Late pick-up also attracts a fee.
Use of Photographs and Related Media Use
We hereby authorize and give full consent, without limitations or reservations, to Learning Skills International School to publish, in whole or in part, any photographs, videos, written extractions, and voice recordings in which the student appears in School publications, including but not limited to newsletters, advertising, brochures, press releases, and the school’s websites or web pages.
